Maxwell J. Sharkey

Attorney

Maxwell “Max” Sharkey is an attorney at Mirabella, Kincaid, Frederick & Mirabella, LLC with a practice centered on family law and child advocacy. He guides clients through some of life’s most difficult moments, including divorce, parental allocation, guardianship, adoption, and post-decree modifications, with patience, compassion, and a genuine commitment to the people he serves.

Max also serves as a Guardian ad Litem in domestic relations and guardianship cases. In this role, he conducts independent investigations, interviews children and collateral witnesses, performs home visits, and provides thoughtful recommendations to the court.

He understands that the families and children he advocates for are navigating deeply personal circumstances, and he approaches every case with the care and attention it deserves. Max also defends clients in Department of Children and Family Services proceedings, including service appeals, indicated finding appeals, and juvenile court litigation.

Max earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 2023, where he received the Edward F. Diedrich Award for his work with underprivileged communities and obtained a Graduate Certificate in Women, Gender, and the Law. He also holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Philosophy from Northern Illinois University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Certificate in Applied Ethics.

An active member of the DuPage County Bar Association, Max currently serves as a New Lawyer Director and has published articles for the DCBA Brief on topics ranging from the Equal Rights Amendment to ethical issues in attorney solicitation. He also presented at the DCBA’s inaugural Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Symposium on inclusive and gender-affirming language in legal practice.

Outside the office, Max enjoys spending time with his dog, Frankie, and getting outside as much as possible.
